Lest we forget ……….

Robert joined the club on 11th October 1993 and passed away during 2001. He toured with us on 4 occasions.

Geof was born on 1st January 1923 and passed away on 5th November 2009 aged 86 years. He joined the club on 29th October 1985 and toured with us on 23 occasions. Was club President in 1996 & 1997, Captain in 1990 & 1991 and served on the management committee from 1990 until 1999. Elected an Honorary Life Vice President of the club at the AGM in November 2005. Club Champion in 1996.

Ken was born on 1st January 1923 and passed away on 27th May 2014 aged 91 years. A stalwart of the club having joined us in the spring of 1980. He travelled on tour every year from 1980 until 2014 a total of 35 trips. Was club President in 1989 & 90, Honorary Secretary from 1982 until 1987 and Honorary Treasurer from 1982 until 1986. Served on the management committee from 1982 until 1992. He was elected an Honorary Life Vice President of the club at the AGM in November 1994.

David joined the club in February 2017 and quickly became a popular tourist travelling with us in both 2018 and 19. He passed away after a short illness on 8th May 2020 just one day short of his 68th birthday. Earned the nickname ‘The Animal’ for his colourful shirts and his ability to drink copious amounts of Gin and Tonic.

Peter joined the club in 1960 and was a member for 10 years. He served on the management committee from 1968-1970 touring with us on 3 occasions.

Ron was born on 20th November 1938 and passed away in July 2020 aged 81. He joined the tourists on 6th March 2008 and was a member until the end of 2018. He toured with us on 9 occasions.

Mike was born on 28th November 1944 and passed away on 11th March 2023 aged 78 years. He joined the club on 30th September 2021 and made his only tour with us to Torquay in May 2022.

Phil joined the club on 28th February 1967 and was a member until 1983 touring with us on 17 occasions. He was President in 1976 and 1977, Captain from 1973 to 1975 and on the management committee from 1971 until he left the club.

Alec first joined the club in 1986 and after not being able to travel on tour left the club in 1988. He re-joined on 3rd October 1995 before leaving again at the year end in 2002. During his time with us he toured on 4 occasions. Alec was 81 years old.

Tony was born on 5th November 1937 and passed away on the 20th January 2008 aged 70 years. He joined the club on 11th October 1993 and toured with us on 12 occasions. Was elected Treasurer at the AGM in November 2001 (having taken over at short notice during the year when the incumbent treasurer passed away) and held the position until 2006.

Bill was born on 15th August 1937 and passed away on 2nd January 2023 aged 84 years. He joined the club on 4th March 1999 and remained a member until his passing touring with us on 22 occasions. He joined the management committee in 2006, was Captain from 2008 until 2011 then President in 2012 and 2013. His last year on the club management committee was 2017. He was awarded Honorary Life Vice Presidency status with the club at the AGM in 2019.

Peter was born on 22nd July 1952 and passed away on 27th August 2021 aged 69. He joined the club on 8th October 1997, was elected an Honorary Life Vice President in November 2017 and remained with us until his passing. ‘Chiffo’ toured with the club on 14 occasions and always had a great affection for the tourists and it’s members. He joined the management committee for a number of years in the mid 2000’s but sadly his day to day involvement over recent seasons had been limited due to ill health.

Peter was born on 3rd September 1937 and passed away on 7th January 2014 aged 76 years. He joined the club on 22nd March 1990 and toured with us on 15 occasions. A willing worker he became club photographer for many years and was largely responsible for producing a wonderful booklet to commemorate our 50th Anniversary in 2005. Became club captain in 2007 and served on the clubs management committee from 2002 until 2009. He was elected an Honorary Life Vice President of the club at the AGM in November 2010.

Geoff was born on 13th August 1947, joined the club on 2nd February 2017 and passed away on 13th April 2022 aged 73 years. During his time with the club he acted as ‘club photographer’ on tours and our club dinners. Geoff toured with us on 3 occasions.

Keith first joined the club way back in 1996 and left us when emigrating to Spain in 2003. Upon returning to England Keith again joined (2010) leaving briefly in 2013 before coming back to us in 2016. Keith was born on 14th December 1941 and passed away on 18th February 2018 aged 76. He toured with us on 4 occasions.

David joined the club on 24th February 1978 and was a member until 1999 touring with us on 21 occasions. He passed away on 4th February 2017 aged 88 years.

John joined the club on 18th January 1977 and passed away during 1995. He was elected to the club committee in November 1979 and served until he passed away in 1995. During this time he was Captain on three occasions (1982,83 & 84) and President on three occasions (1993, 94, 95). John toured with the club 18 times. John became club champion in 1982 and 1986.

Bob joined us on 6th March 1979 and passed away during 1993. He travelled with us on 10 tours. Bob was tour champion in 1993.

John was born on 23rd August 1933 and passed away on 9th August 2017 aged 83 years. He joined the club on 6th February 2014 and made three tours with us.

Bill was born on 19th June 1916 and passed away on 3rd May 2014 aged 97 years. He joined the club on 5th October 1988 and travelled on a total of 12 tours. Bill was elected an Honorary Life Vice President of the club at the AGM in November 2008.

Phil joined the club on 8th October 1997 and passed away during 2004. He toured with us on 2 occasions.

Ray was born on 19th August 1934 and passed away on 7th November 2020 aged 86 years. He joined the club on 2nd March 2000 and stayed with us until resigning at the end of 2007. He toured with us on 6 occasions.

Ron joined the club on 22nd February 2007 and toured with us in both 07 and 08. Upon moving away to East Sussex Ron resigned from the club. He passed away in early November 2019 aged 76 years.

Phil was born on 1st August 1939 and passed away on 25th May 2013 aged 73 years. He joined the club on 2nd March 2000 and remained a member until he moved away to Bexhill in 2010. Phil toured on 6 occasions becoming club champion in 2003 and 2006.

Joe joined the club on 5th March 1998 and remained a member until he passed away on 9th February 2021. He was elected an Honorary Life Vice President of the club in November 2018. Joe toured with us on 21 occasions. He was born on 13th April 1939 and was 81 years old when he died.

Harry was born on 17th February 1923 and passed away on 6th October 2009 aged 86 years. He joined the club on 7th September 1982 and toured with us on 25 occasions. Served on the clubs management committee from 1987 until 2000 and was elected an Honorary Life Vice President of the club at the AGM in November 2002.

Gerry joined the club in November 1991 and resigned due to ill health at the end of 2005. Gerry passed away on 15th March 2017 aged 90 years. He toured with us on 11 occasions.

David was born on 30th November 1939 and passed away on 27th April 2023 aged 83 years. He joined the club on 6th March 1994 and was a member until the year end 2021. Unfortunately David never did manage to tour with us however he acted as club auditor from 2008 until 2015.

Barry was born on 20th February 1945, joined the club in March 2006 and was a member until he passed away on 15th June 2017 aged 72 years. He toured with us on 11 occasions.

Malcolm joined the club on 26th October 1989 and remained a member until 2000. He toured with us on 5 occasions and on a couple of the tours was our coach driver as well as a player. Malcolm passed away on 7th July 2022.

Keith joined the club on 11th October 1993 and passed away during 2005 (I think). Affectionately known around the bowls circuit as ‘Catweazle’. He toured with us on 11 occasions.

Ron was born on 12th May 1929 and passed away during June 2023 aged 94. He joined the club on 22nd February 1994 and remained a member until his passing. His first tour was in 1995 and he toured each year until 2017 a total of 23 tours. He was elected an Honorary Life Vice President in November 2014.

Gary was born on 6th September 1947 and passed away during 2010 aged 62 years. Although touring with us only the once (in 2010) Gary actually joined the club in 2003 and regularly played for us in ‘friendlies’ and ‘opens’.

Derek joined the club on 5th October 1988 and passed away during 2005. He was elected on to the clubs management committee at the AGM in November 1995 and served until November 2004. Was club Captain in 1990 and toured with us on 15 occasions.

Ted was born on 30th July 1928 and passed away on 24th January 2019 aged 90 years. Ted joined the club in 1980 and was a member for 39 years before his passing. For many years Ted played for Petworth BC, moved to Somerset (Ilminster) in 2004 but continued an interest in the club and came to see his old friends whenever we toured down the west country. He was made an Honorary Life Vice President of the club in November 2000. Ted toured with us on 22 occasions.

Fred joined the club in 1973 and was a member until 1981. He toured with us on 5 occasions.

Dennis was born on 22nd March 1937 and passed away on 11th September 2021 aged 84 years He joined the club on 11th February 2019 and remained until the end of 2021 when ill health meant he could no longer be active with us. His only tour was to Tenby in May 2019.

Roger joined the West Sussex Tourists on 4th March 1999 and passed away on 2nd July 2018 just two days short of his 91st birthday. Affectionately known within the club as ‘the very nice man’ he toured with us on 9 occasions.

Norman joined the club in the spring of 1974 and remained a member until his passing away in 1996. Joining the management committee in 1976 as Secretary he held the position until 1981 before joining the general committee for 2 years. He finished his time on the management by becoming President in 1985 and 86. Norman was elected the clubs first Honorary Life Vice President in 1994 and passed away in 1996. He travelled on 12 tours with the club.

Fred joined the tourists on 5th March 1998 and was a member until 2007. He toured with the club 8 times. He was born on 15th December 1930 and passed away on 30th July 2019 aged 88 years.

Pat joined the club on 4th March 2004 and left when ill health stopped him actively participating at the end of 2015. Pat toured with us on 8 occasions. He passed away on 16th July 2018 aged 88.

Joe was born on 31st May 1943 and passed away on 17th June 2020 aged 77 years. He joined the tourists in February 2012 and toured with us on 5 occasions. He loved to be known as ‘Rum Joe’ for obvious reasons.

Tony was born on 10th June 1924 and passed away during 2008 aged 83 years. Tony joined the tourists on 15th May 1991 and travelled on 15 tours.

Brian joined the club in March 2004 and resigned due to ill health at the end of 2014. Brian passed away on 20th March 2017 aged 87 years. He toured with us on 8 occasions.

Frank was born on 6th September 1919 and passed away in 2013 aged 93 years. Frank joined the club in April 1991 and toured on 12 occasions.

Ken was born on 21st September 1921 and passed away on 5th November 2015 aged 94 years. He joined the West Sussex Tourists on 29th November 1979 and travelled on 18 tours. Was club President in 1991 and 1992 and served three years as Captain in 1987,8 and 9. He was elected the clubs management committee at the AGM on 31st November 1986 and served until the AGM in November 1998. He was elected an Honorary Life Vice President of the club at the AGM on 27th November 1997. Ken became ‘tour champion’ in 1994.

Ray joined the club on 31st January 2013 and was a member until he passed away on 22nd July 2020 aged 73 years. He was born on 9th November 1946 and toured with us on 6 occasions.

Richard joined the club on 11th February 2019 and joined us for his only tour (to Tenby) the following May. He was taken ill shortly afterwards and moved away from Bognor Regis to be near family. Due to his moving away and illness he resigned his membership at the year end 2020. Richard passed away on 25th July 2021 aged 78.

Peter joined the club on 7th September 1982 and passed away during 2001. He was elected to the club committee at the AGM in November 1985 becoming Hon. Treasurer at the following years AGM. He held this role within the club until he passed away in the spring of 2001. Peter toured with the club on 18 occasions.

Bert joined the club in March 1991 and toured regularly until 1999 before moving ‘back home’ to Suffolk in 2004. He made a total of 9 tours with the club. Bert passed away a few years after returning to Suffolk.

Bert joined the club on 18th May 1995 and was a member until he passed away on 16th January 2019 (aged 93). He was elected an Honorary Life Vice President of the club in November 2015. Bert toured with us on 17 occasions.

Alan joined the club on 22nd February 1994 and was a member until he passed away on 28th December 2017 aged 82. He toured with us on 14 occasions and was a great clubman happily doing any odd jobs and importantly for most of those years being the official club photographer. He was elected an Honorary Life Vice President in November 2014.

Peter became a member of the club on 19th November 1992 and was a member until 2003 touring with us on 9 occasions.

Ken was born on 21st January 1933 and passed away on 24th December 2008 aged 75. Ken travelled with the club on 18 tours. Served as President in 2002,03 & 04, Captain in 1997 & 98 and served on the management committee from 1993 until 2008.

Cecil was born on 8th November 1930 and passed away on 26th October 2021 just a couple of weeks short of his 91st birthday. He joined the club on 2nd April 1984 and was with us until his passing. Cecil joined the clubs management committee in November 1988 until ill health curtailed his day to day involvement in 2017. He served as Captain in 2001 and 2002 and President for 7 years from 2004. Elected an Honorary Life Vice President of the club in 2004 and was club Champion in 1999. Received the clubs ’25 tours’ award in 2009. He toured with us on 32 occasions.

Ned was born on 17th September 1943 and passed away on 16th January 2023 aged 79. He joined the club on 6th March 2008 and remained a member until he passed away. He joined the clubs management committee at the AGM in November 2010 and served three years before taking over the Captaincy (a job he did for another two years). He then served a further two years as a committee member before ascending in November 2016 to become President. Ned was still in the Presidency role when he passed away. Always an active member of the club he toured with us on 12 occasions.

Charles was born on 12th February 1901 and passed away on 12th January 2000 just a month short of his 99th birthday. He joined the club on 5th March 1975 and remained a member until he passed away. He toured with us on 23 occasions.

Brian was born on 9th June 1940 and passed away on 15th November 2007 aged 67 years. He joined the club on 6th October 1987 and travelled on 18 tours. He was club President in 2000 & 01, Captain in 1995 & 96 and served on the management committee from 1992 until 2007. He was elected an Honorary Life Vice President of the club at the AGM in November 2007 just two days before he passed away.

Bill joined the club in 1956 and was a member until 1973. Bill joined the management committee in 1962 as club treasurer. a position he held until 1971. He was President in 1972 and 73. Bill made 17 tours with the club.

Tommy was born on 16th December 1928 and passed away on 14th November 2018 just a month short of his 90th birthday. He joined the tourists in February 2007 touring with us on 7 occasions before resigning from the club due to ill health at the end of 2014.

Ron was born on 16th November 1939 and passed away on 23rd January 2022 aged 82. He joined the club on 18th February 2010 and remained a member until ill health curtailed his bowling in 2017. He toured with us on 5 occasions. Acted as club photographer during his touring years.
